government and God

Some people are confused when it come to the government and God. What exactly are believers supposed to do?
First of all we do not owe the government the devotion we owe to God. To God we owe our worship and faithfulness. Remember the government only exists as long as God gives it the ability and power.
The question was asked of Jesus, “Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” Jesus said, “Show Me the tax money.” They gave him a denarius, which had the picture of Caesar. Then He asked, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said, “Caesar’s.” He answered, “Render therefore the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matt 22: 17-21) This has become the standard for what we owe the government.
We owe the government the payment of taxes for the necessary services the government provides for us. We also owe law abiding and an honest type of lifestyle. (Romans: 13 1-7) We also are to be informed and active, old biblical scholars believed it was our duty to keep the government on the right track, doing right.
When the government steps outside the mandate authorized by God, then the government does not have any further claim on its citizens. When the apostles came before the government in their day, they were commanded not to speak about Jesus. They told authorities that they could not help speaking of things they had seen or heard.
When faced with jail, beatings, and other unspeakable horror’s, they continued preaching the faith to the masses. They obviously considered the governments power to come to an end when the government began to restrict their freedom to worship God, and preach about Jesus…………
